Declawing Your Cat
The subject of declawing is a very delicate one. There are people who believe in both sides of this argument, and both sides have valid arguments. Most veterinarians will perform the surgery, but some are morally opposed to it and refuse to do it.
There are some benefits to having a cat declawed. If the cat has violent tendencies, it may be a good idea to have it declawed. This is especially true if the cat is around children. Removing the claws makes it much more difficult for the cat to injure anybody, including children and guests. It is important to remember, however, that if the cat is violent, it is probably a good idea to keep him or her separate from anyone or anything he or she might attack. This is the best way to keep the incidence of injury down.
On the other side of this subject, there are people who believe that declawing is cruel in nature. The procedure involves the veterinarian removing the cat’s claws by burning them off and then cauterizing the wound. The procedure is not generally thought of as a necessary one. For this reason, some people argue that it puts the cat at risk for no reason.
